The annual Training Session for MusiQuE Peer-reviewers took place on 7-8 November 2018 at the Academy of Music in Graz, Austria. 41 peers, including 7 students, from higher music education institutions across the world participated in this successful edition.

This year’s programme featured a newcomer’s session as well as ‘peer-to-peer’ session for more experienced reviewers, giving them an opportunity to share experiences and presenting a “critical friend” approach.

During the second day of the training, all participants took part in a roleplay session: ‘acting as a peer-reviewer’, which they prepared during the working dinner from the previous evening. This practical exercise allowed the participants to undertake a meeting during a mock institutional site-visit, taking a role of either members of a review team or staff from the institution.

The participants also had an occasion to work in small groups and to discuss questions posed by the session leaders. The training session ended with a plenary final discussion and conclusions.

Training sessions for peer-reviewers are offered every year. The next MusiQuE Training Session for Peer-reviewers will take place prior to the AEC Congress at the Conservatorio di Musica “G.Verdi” in Torino, Italy, on 6-7 November 2019.
