MusiQuE is pleased to contribute to the recent AEC publication Innovating Curricula – Building Capacity for Innovation in Higher Music Education Institutions, with an article by Jacques Moreau, Chair of the MusiQuE Board. The article, titled How can MusiQuE’s standards and methodology inspire student-centredness in curriculum design?, explores how MusiQuE’s quality assurance and enhancement tools can support institutions in designing curricula that place students at the heart of the educational process.

Drawing on MusiQuE’s Standards, the article guides readers through three connected themes: a definition of student-centredness, an overview of MusiQuE’s work and methodology, and concrete suggestions for curriculum design. It emphasises the idea that students should not only be at the centre of institutional attention but also take an active role in shaping their learning journey, acting as authors and creators of their development.

By offering a flexible framework grounded in institutional missions and values, MusiQuE supports curriculum innovation as a collaborative effort. Quality enhancement and curricular innovation, as the article stresses, not only benefit from but depend on the meaningful involvement of all actors, particularly students and teachers, in the design, development, and implementation of the curriculum.
